Founded in 1953, Mianus River Gorge, Inc. is an independent, not-for-profit organization,  whose mission is to preserve, protect, and promote appreciation of the natural heritage of the Mianus River watershed through land acquisition and conservation, scientific research, and public education throughout the region.

User groups:

Trout Unlimited, Mianus Chapter: a national organization devoted to conserving, protecting, and restoring our coldwater fisheries. With more than 120,000 members, it is composed of over 400 local chapters, of which nine are in Connecticut. The Mianus Chapter has over 500 members living in the Greenwich, Stamford, Darien, Norwalk, New Canaan and Wilton communities. (We do a little saltwater fly fishing too!) 

Fairfield County NEMBA is a non-profit organization dedicated to:

•        Developing a culture of respectful, responsible, and fun riding habits;

•        Promoting sustainable trail access for mountain bikers by working with land managers to pro-actively maintain and manage trails;

•        Providing great opportunities for the community to ride, learn, and interact;

•        Enhancing the wellness of Fairfield County by making the experience and enjoyment of outdoor recreation better for ALL trail users.

FC NEMBA is actively involved on the Friends of Mianus River Park Board and works with the Friends and the City of Stamford in managing most of the Trail Maintenance activities away from the river in the park. Where necessary projects are needed in the river areas, the Mianus chapter of Trout Unlimited is consulted in addition to the Friends and City representatives.
